Theoreticity
Webbtheoreticity, or a lower degree of observationality. What appears defensible is that there is some point on the theory/observation continuum at which most of the currently accepted assertions beyond it are false, but this point may not be precisely where the theory/observation distinction is usually drawn. Webb4 aug. 2024 · notion of pre-T-theoreticity and - more importantly - of empiricity is needed; i.e., "not empirical" and "not pre-T-theoretical" are independent, necessary but not sufficient conditions for " T-theoretical" (this is also a necessary complement of Sneed's original criterion). Finally it is asked whether the structuralist criterion of T-theoreticity

Webb31 maj 2007 · Download Citation On a New Definition of Theoreticity A simple and precise definition is offered of “term t of theory T being T-theoretical” which can be applied to any formalized theory. WebbTheoreticity is a property that is commonly applied to both expressions in the language of science, and referents and concepts of such expressions. Objects, relations and functions as well as concepts thereof may thus qualify as theoretical in a derived sense.
Webbof-theoreticity approach, there is also reason for interpreting their Thesis II about the theory-dependency of fallacies rather ex tremely, that is, in the sense of example (C). Such is anyhow a sustainable interpretation initially, though it may have to be recon sidered in due course. I shall return to this Webbnotion of theoreticity: a function that is non-theoretical relative to a given theory can very well be theoretical relative to another given theory. This means that the domain of the …

Webb7 maj 2024 · Traditionally, theoreticity used to be defined in terms of non-observability. In this view, a thing (an entity or kind) is theoretical iff it is not observable; and a thing is observable if it can be perceived directly. There are, nevertheless, compelling arguments that show that the traditional way of defining theoreticality is not satisfactory.

This explanation of theoreticity thus rests on an antecedent understanding of observability. What makes an entity or property observable? Two things strike me in contemporary discussions about theoreticity. First, in those studies of individual theories known to me, the number of theoretical terms is the same, namely two [14, 16]. Second, in all the abstract treatments of theoreticity, the theoretical terms are indexed from r to n (r < n). biological geography meaningWebbThe importance of theoreticity has also been acknowledged by some who favour the rival model-theoretic approach to reconstruction [e.g. Niiniluoto 1980].
